Autism Spectrum Disorder


 

Autism spectrum disorder, often known as just autism, is a neuro-developmental disorder that impairs brain function, which affects how autistic people see and interact with others. Certain environmental and genetic factors can contribute to its development.  

Facts about autism :

·         According to WHO and the National Library of Medicine's systematic review update , autism affects 1 in 100 people worldwide

·         Characteristics of Autism may be maybe be detected as early as 18-24 months old, but aren't diagnosed until much later

·         ASD are diverse group of conditions that affect communication, actions, and level of focus

·         Autism patients have repetitive behaviour and sensory sensitivities

·         Despite autism being a disorder that negatively affects the brain, it's also associated with strength in visual memory and the sciences

·         Autism is a spectrum, meaning it can affect people differently. Some autistic people need constant care from their caregivers, while others live independently alone

·         In 2006, a study found that the mortality risk of autistic people is twice than that of the general public

·         ASD strings along mental retardation and language disorders in many cases

Symptoms of ASD:

·         Avoiding eye contact

·         Not responding by name

·         Marked delay in social and language development

·         Lack of gestures and emotions

·         Repetitive behaviour and interests

·         Having a hard time understanding and registering people's body language

·         Defiant and/or unresponsive behaviour
